Summary
"Jamie's Great Britain" finds cook Jamie Oliver travelling around the country in his mobile kitchen to find out what makes British food great. He sets out to create his own versions of traditional dishes and discovers that many of the foods typically thought of as British are actually full of influences from around the world: a legacy of invasion, exploration, colonisation and immigration. In the opening episode, he kicks off his road trip in London, tasting traditional pie and mash and modern Vietnamese street food, before heading for his home territory of Southend-on-Sea. He rustles up beef and ale pie, Leigh-on-Sea sole cooked with shellfish and brown shrimps, fresh oysters four ways and baked sea bass in a bag. The six-part series premiered on Channel 4 in October 2011.
