The Wire
Overview
Ostensibly a "cop show", The Wire is far broader in its scope than that description traditionally implies. The uncompromising US drama paints a bleakly accurate picture of life on the streets of Baltimore, examining how its characters' lives are dictated by the institutions they belong to: the drug-dealing Barksdale family, the Baltimore police force that pursues them; the dock workers of series two; the politicians who enter the mix in series three; and the school system examined in series four.
