RT Choice (Mark Braxton, 24 September 2007)

The pilot for this Doctor Who spin-off, which rather snuck under the radar on New Year's Day, was better than we had any right to expect: smart, funny and full of action. In the space of 60 minutes, it also cleverly turned our heroine from an aloof and distant figure into a caring and maternal one.

The first of a ten-part series borrows from its parent show those farting fiends the Slitheen and zips them into a perky, funny, back-to-school caper. The show looks perfect for cheering up Mondays; it confirms the promise of the pilot and has its heart in exactly the right place.
