RT Choice (Jane Rackham, 9 April 2008)

This series is going from strength to strength, interlacing some brilliant comic moments with some darkly intriguing ones…

  • Episode 6/17 Now I Know, Don't Be Scared

Desperate Housewives Series four Now I Know, Don't Be Scared © American Broadcasting Companies, IncHaving only just recovered from the shock of discovering that Mike's father is alive, Susan has to cope with the revelation that he is also serving time for murder. Edie catches Carlos as he's moving out, and when he lies to her about seeing someone else, she reports him to the IRS. By contrast, when Victor finds out Gaby is leaving him, he begs her to stay, promising to give her all the attention she needs.

RT Choice (Alison Graham, 30 April 2008)

It's Halloween on Wisteria Lane - you'd know that anyway because of all the pumpkins and witch costumes, but still the deeply irritating narrator, Mary Alice, insists upon telling us that it's Halloween. Get rid of her - she's long since served her purpose.

Though the housewives are living increasingly separate lives, the series is still going strong - camp, funny and with unexpected shafts of darkness and poignancy. Just look at the whole range of emotions that flits across Felicity Huffman's face as Lynette gets news of the progress of her cancer.

There's silliness, too, as the locals get into the swing of things with a Halloween party at the home of the gay couple. It's a gruesome event, in so many ways.

  • Episode 7/17 You Can't Judge a Book by Its Cover

Now Lynette is cancer free, she expects her mother to be on her way, but Stella has driven all Lynette's sisters mad with her impossible behaviour and none of them will have her back. Meanwhile, Bree wants to get baby Benjamin circumcised. Orson not only objects but instructs all the local doctors to refuse the procedure if Bree tries to go behind his back - which, of course, she does…

RT Choice (Jane Rackham, 7 May 2008)

Although no-one on Wisteria Lane is happy this week, it's a wickedly funny episode. But if they don't give us just a teeny hint about what happened to Katherine's husband soon, I might explode with frustration.

  • Episode 8/17 Distant Past

Against his better judgement, Carlos allows Gaby to tell the police that Victor may have killed himself, even though Victor's boat is suspiciously devoid of any fingerprints. Orson is struggling with Bree's newfound maternal urges, particularly her insistence that Benjamin shares their bed. Mike's drug dealer shows up at the house, but Susan answers the door and, thinking he's a medical student, invites him back in the hope he and Julie will get together.

RT Choice (Alison Graham, 14 May 2008)

Felicity Huffman as Lynette continues to run away with every scene she's in; she's such a wonderful actress, and her moments with her strange parents, especially her drunken, feckless mother, are both funny and touching.

  • Episode 9/17 Something's Coming

A tornado is heading for Wisteria Lane, bringing with it a mood of barely controlled hysteria. Carlos and Gaby prepare to take flight, but they need access to his accounts in the Cayman Islands, and Edie has got her hands on the vital documents. Meanwhile, Mike is furious when Susan lets on that she knows about his drug addiction, and in the heat of the moment he pulls her arm and she falls down the stairs.
