Episode 1/7
Danny Brogan, his wife Evelyn, and their teenage twins Zoë and Mark arrive in their new home, Meadowlands - but it's clear they're not all happy to be there. As the family attempt to settle in, and get to know the eccentric locals, Danny is convinced he recognises a man lurking near the house. Meanwhile, Zoë becomes involved in a dangerous relationship with bad-boy handyman Jack Donnelly, which threatens to end in tragedy. RT Choice (David Butcher, 10 July 2007)
Everything [in Meadowlands] is touched with menace, from Brenda the overbearing neighbour to Jack the oversexed odd job man. The trouble is, it's a creepiness we've seen before, the kind where nothing is what it seems and every character has a dark secret and the writers merrily give theselves a free pass to ignore emotional logic and churn out stilted dialogue.
It's both too stylised and not stylised enough. The only performance that conveys the depths of weirdness needed comes from Tom Hardy as Jack, a genuinely unsettling presence who might even pass a David Lynch audition. Otherwise it's spookily confected nonsense.

Episode 2/7
Having watched his father throttle the life out of Jack Donnelly, Mark is hysterical. Danny manages to distract Evelyn while he removes the body and calms Mark down, but when Donnelly doesn't turn up for a late-night football match, Wintersgill becomes suspicious. As rumours of Donnelly's fate spread through Meadowlands, Danny manages to deflect the policeman's questions. But has Mark inadvertently given the game away? -
Episode 3/7
Following Danny's arrest for Donnelly's murder, Wintersgill holds him in a basement cell and lays out the evidence. As the two engage in a psychological battle, Zoe and Mark aren't coping well with the turn of events. Mark takes it out on Jezebel, and Zoe seeks refuge on the golf course. Meanwhile, there's a shock in store for Evelyn when she hears the results of Danny's sperm test.
-
Episode 4/7
Zoe makes a shocking and gruesome discovery while out running. Meanwhile at the surgery, Evelyn pleads with York not to tell Danny the truth about his test results. As news of Donnelly's murder spreads, Wintersgill calls a meeting to explain to frightened residents that Donnelly paid the price for taking unauthorised trips outside Meadowlands. But Zoe's convinced the story is a lie and sets off with Tom to uncover the truth. -
Episode 5/7
In London, Samantha learns of her father's terminal illness - as well as Danny's questions about the "Cape Wrath" project. Back in Meadowlands, a strange phone call prompts Evelyn to confront Dr York. Meanwhile, Freddie uses psychological tricks to convince Danny he's seen Jack Donnelly alive and well. Danny collapses from the shock and awakens to find himself at the motel with Samantha. He demands answers, and gets them - along with threats about what will happen if he shares the truth with anyone.
-
Episode 6/7
Dr York wakes early, plagued by dreams of the events that brought him to Meadowlands. At the surgery, Evelyn confronts him about his angry outburst the previous day. Later, at the golf club, she spots him maniacally hitting balls in all directions and demands to know why he's following her. In response, he issues a threat and a chilling ultimatum. Meanwhile, despite a warning from Wintersgill, Danny is determined to find out more about leaving Meadowlands.
-
Episode 7/7
Danny's plans to escape from Meadowlands are gaining pace. But the twins are less than thrilled by the idea, and Samantha is becoming suspicious. Meanwhile, Brenda inadvertently reveals a secret when she confronts Mark over his betrayal with Jezebel. At the opening of his new bar, Danny's speech to the guests is the cue for the Brogans to sneak out to the car. But as he leaves the stage, York - drunk and in a vicious mood - grabs the microphone to deliver an announcement of his own.
