In a grisly and canny horror for our recession-blighted times, uncaring bankers and medical insurers play their tortured part in this, the directorial debut of series editor Kevin Greutert. Delving further into the grand conundrum of carnage of malevolent puppet master Jigsaw (Tobin Bell, expertly haunting the multi-flashback format), the sixth instalment sees questions answered (the contents of the Saw III letter are revealed), mysteries solved (The Box is opened) and motives laid bare as Jigsaw's latest accomplice tries to stay ahead of the FBI while putting six more pawns through their death-device paces. With ingenuity and poignancy injected back into the devilishly suspenseful fun (the Russian Roulette carousel is wonderfully executed) and Greutert keeping the action hurtling along at breakneck speed, the revitalised fear franchise finds its footing once more.
