Asterix and the Vikings (2006)

Loosely based on the Goscinny and Uderzo comic book Asterix and the Normans/, the eighth animated outing for Asterix and Obelix sees the hirsute heroes squaring off against an invading band of Viking warriors whove kidnapped the Chiefs slacker nephew, Justforkix. Groan-worthy puns and anachronistic gags deliver the biggest laughs (a furniture-obsessed Nordic woman named Vikea; a messenger pigeon called SMS), something that will inevitably leave younger children feeling slightly left out. Its a scrappy but likeable entry in the hit-and-miss series that makes up for its lack of action by staying true to the iconic visual style of the original comic strips. JR
