Constantly threatening to outstay its welcome, yet always managing to come up with another worthwhile line of inquiry, Henry Jaglom's typically talky treatise on babies was clearly inspired by the fact he had just fathered a second child with his wife, the film's star Victoria Foyt. As Gena, Foyt is so tormented by the ticking of her biological clock that she can barely make a rational choice between dull, worthy boyfriend Matt Salinger and her reckless ex, Eric Roberts. The verbosity of the baby-shower scene will alienate many, but some of the insights are disarmingly honest — even if they're not particularly original. DP
