As is often the case when a familiar story is retold for the umpteenth time, the quality of the cast is key. A galaxy of stars surround Tina Majorino in this small-screen adaptation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, which also benefits from some wondrous Jim Henson puppetry. Yet, somehow, the combination still falls short of the cherished images taken from those first readings of Lewis Carroll's classic tales. There are stand-out performances from the likes of Miranda Richardson as the Queen of Hearts and Gene Wilder as the Mock Turtle, but others are too eager to please, among them Martin Short's Mad Hatter.
