Born Free stars Bill Travers, and Virginia McKenna, yet again allow themselves to be upstaged by an adorable creature in this delightful adaptation of Gavin Maxwell's bestseller. While Mij the otter hasn't the majestic presence of Elsa the lioness or the voice of Babe the sheep-pig, he'll still win the hearts of children with his mischievous escapades, whether careering around a cramped city-flat, splashing in his private swimming tank or romping in the snow. There's even room for a few tears in one tragic scene, but the lasting impression will be one of a wonderful little animal with a larger-than-life personality. DP
