Resurrected for radio by Stef Penney, Daphne Alexander assumes the role of pulp provocateuse Modesty Blaise, a glamorous agent with an appetite for fast cars, martial arts and a foreign tongue.

Often pegged as the female James Bond, the 60s feminist icon began life as a cartoon strip in the London Evening Standard. In this adaptation of a later novel by Peter O’Donnell, Modesty is called out of retirement to put her expertise into practise against a larger-than-life public school villain. Exotic, sexy and bullet-paced, A Taste for Death is the perfect blend of schoolboy fantasy and Tarantino kitsch.

By Peter O'Donnell. Dramatised by Stef Penney. Sir Gerald Tarrant, head of a British secret service agency, tempts female super-spy Modesty Blaise out of retirement with a job involving a gifted young woman, an exotic desert locale, and a larger-than-life public school villain intent on murdering his way to a vast fortune. Daphne Alexander stars as the femme fatale in an action-adventure based on the author's spy novel. Broadcast earlier as part of Woman's Hour.
