Review

The annual Free Thinking festival of ideas has a theme of Them and Us this year, and the debates ask if the world is becoming a more divided place. Much of the talk is about global politics, but Music Matters takes a more aesthetic approach to the festival theme and asks if classical music really is for everyone.

A panel including cellist Natalie Clein, opera director Graham Vick and cellist, cabaret artist and composer Zoë Martlew discuss the question — but won’t this line-up all be batting for the same side?

Summary

Tom Service and a panel of guests ask whether classical music is really for everyone, live from the Northern Rock Foundation Hall at the Sage Gateshead as part of Radio 3's Free Thinking Festival. With cellist Natalie Clein, opera director Graham Vick, journalist Paul Morley, composer Zoe Martlew and smallpiper Kathryn Tickell.
