Burt Caesar considers the legacy of John La Rose, the cultural activist and author who founded New Beacon Books - Britain's first black publishing house. He examines the Trinidad-born publisher's role in fostering racial equality in Britain during the 1960s, and reveals how he mobilised 20,000 people to march in protest through London after an arson attack in New Cross in 1981 that claimed the lives of 13 black youngsters. Includes contributions by Caesar's partner Sarah White, poet Linton Kwesi Johnson, publisher Margaret Busby, scholar Susan Craig-Jones and Professor Gus John.
