Dreamy French singer Vincent Niclo — whose latest CD is called Romantique — is le choix parfait this Valentine’s Day to host a celebration of the French love song.
Citizens of every country fall in love and write songs about it. So why, when we think of romance, do we tend to think not of Pietermaritzburg or Plymouth, but of Paris? And, more specifically, of a Parisian café and a chansonnier in a smoky basement bar?
There is something unique about a French love song. It has a certain… je ne sais quoi. But tonight M. Niclo will explain how the French earned their réputation romantique, illustrating his story with the music of Charles Aznavour, Edith Piaf, Yves Montand, Françoise Hardy, Johnny Hallyday and more.
Some of us may need to blow down our blouses to cool off.
French singer Vincent Niclo revisits popular French songs that achieved success around the world after they were re-recorded in English.
