Nicholas Kenyon assesses available recordings of Bach's B minor Mass, which was one of the compser's last compositions, completed in 1749, the year before his death. At 10.30, Andrew McGregor is joined by Chi-chi Nwanoku to explore recordings by black composers that deserve to be better known, including music by the French champion fencer and virtuoso violinist, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, Samuel Coleridge Taylor, Florence Price, Ghanaian drummer Obo Addy, and contemporary composers Jeffrey Mumford and Errollyn Wallen. Plus, at 11.45, Andrew chooses an outstanding new release as his Disc of the Week.
