Cerys Matthews' guest this month is the American singer-songwriter Tony Joe White. He was born in 1943, and brought up in the cotton fields of the state of Louisiana. Known as the Swamp Fox, he is best known for his 1969 hit Polk Salad Annie and for writing Rainy Night in Georgia, first made popular by Brook Benton in 1970. He also wrote Steamy Windows, a hit for Tina Turner in 1989. Tony tells Cerys supernatural stories from the swamps, talks about his friendship with Dire Straits’ frontman Mark Knopfler, and takes us behind the scenes of the recording studio process.
