A newly-commissioned work for radio from globally renowned theatre director and artist Robert Wilson. Co-produced by the BBC and a group of German radio stations, this multilingual sound-collage describes the doomed tower of Babel in half a dozen languages, interwoven and juxtaposed. Wilson, originally an architect, makes use of text from an ancient description of the city of Babylon to form his collage, alongside passages from the great works of theatre history, including extracts from Aeschylus, Euripides, Shakespeare, Racine and Ionesco. Includes readings by Fiona Shaw, Alan Cumming, Daniel Hope and architect Daniel Libeskind.
