Clare Balding meets people for whom walking is not just a leisure activity but a passion that is vital to their lives in the latest run of the rambling show. She begins by joining writer David Nicholls, perhaps best known for the best-selling novel One Day, on an eight-mile circular route around the Devil's Punchbowl in Thursley, Surrey. He explains how important walking is to his creative process, how he finds it the ideal way to absorb a novel when he is adapting one of the classics for TV, and also reveals how he loves exploring new cities by foot.
