Summary

Andrew McGregor begins today's Summer Record Review with Elgar's Serenade for Strings, Op 20, performed by the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, and conducted by Sakari Oramo. At 9.30, he presents the final instalment of the Proms Composers series, exploring the recordings of Jonathan Dove, whose work spans opera, orchestral, choral and chamber music. At 10.45, Kate Kennedy reviews Elgar Remastered, a set of Elgar's own recordings from the 1920s and 1930s, including stereo reconstructions and unissued takes. Finally, at 11.45, Andrew introduces Serpent & Fire, Arias for Dido and Cleopatra'. The piece is soprano Anna Prohaska's latest recording with Giovanni Antonini's period instrument group Il Giardino Armonico, and features music by Purcell, Handel, Hasse and Cavalli, among others.
