Sheila Chandra charts the story of Asian music in Britain, following the development of Bhangra from a lively folk dance of the Punjabi harvests which found its way to the UK in the 1950s, to the Western pop-influenced sound of today. Though it has never broken through to the mainstream because it is primarily sung in Punjabi, the music continues to absorb new influences and, after luring schoolchildren to the infamous daytime raves of the 1980s, is alive and well with fans all over the world. First broadcast in 2003.
