The Diving Venus

The Diving Venus

Kate Rew celebrates the life of Annette Kellerman, the 1920s aquatic vaudeville star who popularised the one-piece swimsuit and became the first woman to attempt to swim the Channel. Paralysed by polio as a child, the Australian was introduced to swimming as a therapy and became known as the Diving Venus when she took a job performing a water ballet act at the London Hippodrome. First aired in 2011.
