Over 14 days you will get to know this remarkable country through visits to cities, lakes, hill stations, rivers and temples, travelling by plane, long-tail teak boats and charmingly slow railways. Firstly, there is Rangoon with its busy markets and street life and the astonishing Shwedagon pagoda. Next it’s on to Mandalay, Burma’s second city, overlooked by Mandalay Hill.
We also visit the hill station of Maymyo, founded by the British and a glimpse into a lost colonial world. There is also a chance to see quintessential rural Burma around the vast Inle Lake, high in the eastern hill country. Finally, there is Pagan, the 13th-century capital, which is a remarkable sight with its thousands of pagodas. Inspiring and enchanting, there is no better time to explore Burma – the golden land.

Travel in Burma is liable to frequent changes or delays in local flight and transport schedules and subsequent amendments to your daily itinerary. You may also experience power cuts and slower service than in other more developed countries of South East Asia. After so many years of being a ‘closed’ country for tourism, demand is now outstripping supply and there may be cases of hotel or flight over-bookings, often at short notice. In such instances we will always endeavour to advise you as soon as possible and minimize any impact to your tour itinerary. We do our best to use independent local hotel and transport operators whose businesses benefit their local communities, however for operational reasons this may not always be possible in every case.
British passport holders require a visa for Burma prior to arrival. This is available by post or in person at a cost of £14 per person from the Embassy of the Union of Myanmar, 19a Charles Street, London W1J 5DX (open Mon-Fri 10.00-12.00). Visas are valid for three months from date of issue. Please allow at least five to ten working days for processing. For more information and a visa application form, please call 0207 6294486 or see www. myanmarembassyuk.co.uk. Visa costs are subject to change and non-refundable.
