Everything you need to know about the sixth season stars of the exotic murder mystery
By Radio Times Staff

As well as being home to some of the most exotic murders on TV, the sizzling Caribbean island of Saint Marie is also host to some very familiar faces. From Father Ted stars to The Night Manager actors, the sixth series of the BBC’s hit whodunnit Death in Paradise is full of people you’ve seen before.

Here’s everything you need to know about the show’s cast and characters.

Regular cast

Kris Marshall as DI Humphrey Goodman

Who is DI Humphrey Goodman?

DI Goodman is the main detective on the fictional island, taking over from Ben Miller’s Richard Poole in series three. Although he has the same knack for details and crime-solving as his predecessor, unlike Poole, Goodman fully embraces Carribean life. However, Goodman is very clumsy and is never far away from an accident in a lovable Hugh Grant kind of way.

Who is Kris Marshall?

Most will know him as lovable idiot Nick Harper in BBC sitcom My Family, or as American-bound Colin Frissell in Love Actually.

And yes, he’s also very recognisable as Adam from those BT adverts between 2005 and 2011, plus as Dave in BBC sitcom Citizen Khan.

Joséphine Jobert as DS Florence Cassel

Who is Florence Cassel?

DS Cassel is a young detective with a great nose for sniffing out guilty parties. She’s strong-minded, charming and, above all, an outstanding police officer.

Who is Joséphine Jobert?

Before starring in Death in Paradise, Jobert starred in a number of French TV shows, including the popular soap Sous le soleil de Saint-Tropez.

Ardal O’Hanlon as DI Jack Mooney

Who is DI Jack Mooney?

When we first meet Jack he's a Met officer who gets the job of looking after the visiting Caribbean officers. But when Humphrey decides to stay in London, Jack heads to Saint Marie in his place.

We know that he's a recent widower with a grown-up daughter. And from what we've seen so far, he has a roundabout way of getting to the point with the use of anecdotes – but underneath his slightly-naive, eccentric exterior, he's a very sharp detective.

Who is Ardal O’Hanlon?

You'll probably recognise the hapless Father Dougal McGuire, a priest on Father Ted’s Craggy Island, though he's been in plenty of TV shows since.

Grace Stone as Ardal O'Hanlon's daughter Siobhan Mooney

Who is Siobhan Mooney?

Jack's daughter, who is in her early 20s. She's just lost her mother, and may well be moving to Saint Marie with her dad.

Who is Grace Stone?

She's had bit-parts in Call the Midwife and Doctors, but this could be Stone's TV breakthrough.

Danny John-Jules as Dwayne Myers

Who is Dwayne Myers?

He’s the oldest (and most laid-back) member of the Saint Marie police force. One of the only characters to appear in all six series of the show, Dwayne sometimes unusual methods to solve a crime are questioned by other policemen. However, since he knows everyone on the island, he’s a valuable resource.

Who is Danny John-Jules?

He’s probably a familiar face to you thanks to his role as the cat on Red Dwarf, but he’s also starred in Blade II (as Asad), Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (Barfly Jack) and the Bob the Builder remake (voice of Curtis).

Don Warrington as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson

Who is Selwyn Patterson?

He’s the top dog of the Saint Marie police.

Who is Don Warrington?

A veteran actor that’s starred in everything from The President in Doctor Who (2006’s Rise of the Cybermen), to kid TV show Chop Socky Chooks.

Tobi Bakare as JP Hooper

Who is JP Hooper?

One of Saint Marie Police’s youngest members – but one of the brightest.

Who is Tobi Bakare?

As well as having a small role in 2014 comedy Kingsman: The Secret Service, Bakare has appeared in TV dramas Silent Witness, The Tunnel and The Smoke.

Sally Bretton as Martha

Who is Martha?

Martha is travelling when she meets Humphrey, and they begin a holiday romance. But she's heading home to London to start a new job in a restaurant, just when Humphrey is realising the depth of his love for this woman. What will he do about it?

Who is Sally Bretton?

Bretton stars in Not Going Out, playing Lucy Adams since 2007. She's also been in Green Wing, The Office, and plenty of theatre productions.

Guest stars

Douglas Hodge

Who does he play? Daniel Langham

Who is Douglas Hodge?

Chances are Hodge’s face is a familiar one after he starred as Rex Mayhew’s in last year’s The Night Manager and as Sir Robert Loxley opposite Russell Crowe’s Robin Hood in 2010.

Natasha Little

Who does she play? Victoria Blake

Who is Natasha Little?

Another star of The Night Manager (she played Caroline Langbourne), Little is best known for portraying Christina Moxam in BBC kidnap drama Thirteen. She’s also had roles in Mr Nobody (next to Jared Leto), as well as a brief part in Black Mirror blackmail episode Shut up and Dance.

Adrian Rawlins

Who does he play? Stephen Langham

Who is Adrian Rawlins?

Rawlins got plenty of screentime as Edward Barbary in Dickensian and From Darkness, but to many he’ll always be James Potter from the Harry Potter movie saga.

Monica Dolan

Who does she play? Patricia Lawrence

Who is Monica Dolan?

Most recently Dolan played the overly loyal housekeeper in the BBC’s Christmas drama The Witness for the Prosecution, but you probably recognise her as Tracey Pritchard from W1A.

Ramon Tikaram

Who does he play? Oliver Wolf

Who is Ramon Tikaram?

Known for his role as Praveen Badal in Happy Valley, he’ll also be familiar as Mr. Honey to Stella fans. He also starred in Dream Team, as well as in 2015 sci-fi flick Jupiter Ascending as Phylo Percadium.

Emily Taaffe

Who is Emily Taaffe?

Best known as Katya from the BBC’s War and Peace, she’s also had brief roles in Call the Midwife, Atlantis and Ripper Street.

Gary Beadle

Who is Gary Beadle?

Nope, he’s not the original Geordie Shore member, but he is known for starring as Paul Trueman in EastEnders from 2001-2004. He’s also had roles in Sarah Jane Adventures and drama The Interceptor.

Fiona Allen

Who does she play? Dr Anna Wolf

Who is Fiona Allen?

Yes, this is Georgia Stevenson from Waterloo Road. She’s also the star of Smack the Pony and Paul Whitehouse’s Happiness.
