EastEnders: Aidan gives Mick a gun – will someone now get shot?

Surely that firearm is going to come into play this festive season?

Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) has been handed a sinister Christmas present on tonight’s EastEnders: a gun.

The firearm came courtesy of Walford villain Aidan Maguire (Patrick Bergin), who wanted to make sure that the Queen Vic landlord was still committed to the heist he has planned for New Year.

In the run-up to receiving his not-so-festive gift, Mick was seen getting roped in by Linda to help with her plans for their vow renewal.

Little did Mrs Carter know, though, that her fella should have been attending an important meeting with Aidan and the rest of his gang.

Cliffhanger scenes then saw Mick apologise to Aidan and assure him that he was still on board. In response, the enigmatic criminal kingpin gave Mick an early Christmas prezzie: a shooter!

As for what happens next, fans of the BBC1 soap can expect Mick to have second thoughts about doing the job, only for Aidan to get his own back by ringing the police to tell them about the gun on the pub’s premises.

Is Mick and Linda’s day about to fall apart? And – more importantly – will the gun end up being fired?

After all, there is the adage that if a loaded gun is introduced into a drama, it has to go off at some point. Might there be a shooting on the Square before 2017 is through?
