“It will happen, yeah. Something will happen, definitely. 100 per cent.”
That’s what Love Island’s Chris Hughes told us back in July. He was talking about teaming up with his fellow villa fella Kem Cetinay and collaborating with Stormzy on the release of some music and he was pretty adamant the whole thing was happening.
But now a lot of cold water has been poured on the future for Run KMC: Chris and Kem have confirmed that the Stormzy single is not happening after all.
“He’s so busy…There’s nothing in the pipeline,” Kem told RadioTimes.com and other press, although hastened to add: “One day, I don’t see why not. I really don’t.”
They did however say that the grime artist had given the pair “loads” of advice since leaving the villa. “He’s been really good with us – he’s really helped a lot,” said Kem. “If he’s backing us, what more backing do you need?”
The pair’s musical journey is charted in a new two-part ITV2 series called Straight Outta Love Island which follows the boys after they left the villa earlier this summer.
Although “the whole show isn’t about music,” said Kem. “It’s about the bromance.”
Aside from each other, the other important people in Chris and Kem’s lives also star in the two-part fly on the wall documentary. The pair confirmed that none of the other Love Island stars from this series will be popping up in the programme apart from Amber Davies and Olivia Attwood.
“They’re happy for us,” says Chris, who also added that Liv wants him to propose to her. “She wants to marry me!” confirmed Chris, who added that he had no immediate plans to propose.
“We’re learning about the industry,” added Kem. “We never thought that we would get thrown into this situation but we have, and we’re just enjoying it. People are going to give us a lot of criticism but we know that and we’ve accepted it because we’re not trained rappers. But it’s Chris and Kem – we’re just going to enjoy it, aren’t we?”
Chris and Kem: Straight Outta Love Island airs on ITV2 on Sunday 1st October
