When The Great British Bake Off moved to Channel 4, we thought we’d seen the last of the history segments – those little interludes which saw Mel and Sue jetting off to investigate the origins of mysterious baked goods like dampfnudel.

We were mistaken.

In this week’s episode, Noel Fielding popped over to Holland to learn about the stroopwafel.

Some people lamented the return of the history section, complaining that having those and ad breaks was simply too much…

A lot of them used it as an excuse for a tea break…

But on the other side of the history segment controversy, people were whooping for joy at the return of the educational element of the show…
