Kush and Denise’s on-off-on-off-on again relationship drama provided a fresh cliffhanger on tonight’s EastEnders, thanks to a surprise proposal of marriage.

With her partner about to be wheeled into emergency surgery, Denise realised that she’d wasted enough time on doubts and regrets and hurriedly asked Kush to marry her.

Thankfully, Kush immediately said yes, although soap fans will now have to wait until Monday to discover whether he survives the op.

Earlier in the episode, Kush had been told by doctors that he had Brugada Syndrome – a condition that may be hereditary – and that a defibrillator needed to be fitted straight away.

The condition affects the way that electrical signals pass through the heart and can cause it to be beat irregularly fast.

Actor Davood Ghadami, who plays Kush, is currently competing in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking recently about whether his current storyline will result in a temporary exit from the soap so he can concentrate on ballroom training, the actor said:

“I won’t be taking a break, but hopefully it’ll be a bit quieter storyline-wise. EastEnders stars have been able to juggle both so I’m hoping to follow in their footsteps.”
