You’d be forgiven for thinking Steve McDonald’s impromptu proposal to Leanne Battersby was a moment of madness to be brushed under the carpet and forgotten about – but you’d be wrong, because in next week’s Coronation Street the five-times-married man pops the question again, this time in public. He must be serious…

Waking up the morning after the night before next Monday, hungover Leanne is mortified as she recalls Steve’s proposal and rushes to smooth it over with the father of her baby boy.

Meanwhile, Steve confesses to mum Liz that he genuinely likes Leanne and thinks them getting hitched is a great idea, so mummy McDonald encourages her son to purchase a ring and do the deed properly – overheard by Steve’s horrified daughter Amy Barlow. Will the gobby teen blab before the news gets out?

Rushing to speak to Steve before this whole business gets out of hand, Leanne is stopped in her tracks as he gets down on bended knee and produces an engagement ring in front of an assembled (and no doubt confused) crowd and lists the reasons why they should become husband and wife.

How will Lee react? Apart from the night Oliver was conceived (and that was fuelled by booze), is there any hint of a spark between the pair?

Liz clocks a lack of chemistry and wonders whether forcing a relationship is really a good idea, and even gives her son tips on seducing Leanne starting with sending her a big bunch of flowers, but is this potential pairing a disaster waiting to happen or a classic cobbles courtship in the making?
