Who is Destiny Chukunyere?
Destiny is a 14-year-old schoolgirl from Malta. However, Destiny is also a 14-year-old girl with her own Wikipedia page. This is because she won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2015.
What did Destiny sing at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest?
She actually qualified to take part in Eurovision representing Malta after performing the same song that she sings on Britain's Got Talent: Aretha Franklin's Think. She then sang Not My Soul at the competition in November 2015, eventually winning the whole show. Here she is performing live:
Not bad for a then 13-year-old, eh? She won the show with 185 points, beating Armenia (176 points) into second place and Slovenia into third with 112 points.
And in case you were wondering, the UK didn't enter. Which is probably just as well.
What is the Junior Eurovision Song Contest?
Unsurprisingly, it's remarkably similar to the Eurovision Song Contest. The competition started in 2003 and has been won by Malta, Ukraine and the Netherlands twice each in that time.
Children aged 10 to 15 years of age on the day of the contest are allowed to enter, and they must perform original songs. Before 2008, all of the songs entered had to be written by kids aged 10 to 15-year-old, but quite clearly that didn't work out too well.
Since then (thankfully) adults been able to assist pint-sized singers with writing the entries.
