Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2 successfully managed to recreate the warm glow that made vol.1 such a hit with its notoriously passionate fans, and it has come to light that Marvel went above and beyond to keep important plot points from leaking.
Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2 plot spoilers to follow.
The emotional crux of the film surrounds the father-and-son relationship between Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill and Ego, (Kurt Russell). But it is Yondu (Michael Rooker) who ultimately sacrifices himself in order to save Quill’s life, and cements his role as a true father figure.
In a recent Twitter Q&A, fans questioned Gunn on a set of images that were released in February that suggested that Rooker would be making an appearance in the Avengers: Infinity War. They featured Yondu in an Infinity War beanie in a Starbucks near the set where the film was being shot.
But Gunn announced that this was all part of an elaborate ruse to dispel any growing rumors that Yondu would pop his clogs in the second Guardians installment.
Rooker will not feature in Avengers: Infinity War. It's quite inspiring to see how committed Marvel are to keeping their important plot points secret.
