There’s something a lot less… dramatic about the trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi when it’s converted into an 8-bit video game homage.

Even Luke Skywalker’s dramatic announcement “It’s time for the jedi – TO END” seems quite funny when it is delivered via text bubble, and Rey waving a lightsaber around is frankly comic.

Artist John Stratman has given the 8-bit treatment to The Last Jedi’s trailer as the latest in his series of spoofs, with block-y versions of Rey and Luke and Poe and BB-8.

Each scene from the latest trailer has been adapted in the old-school style, with the classic Star Wars soundtrack converting nearly into arcade game music.

Luckily it’s a respectful homage, because The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has seen it. Even better, he has given his stamp of approval.
