Stand down everyone – despite initial reports, it sounds like classic Star Wars character Han Solo WILL still be called Han Solo in his Han Solo spin-off movie, in news that sounds quite obvious when you describe it in that fashion.
Disney CEO Bob Iger had previously commented that the upcoming prequel would see the younger version of Harrison Ford’s Han Solo (played by Alden Ehrenreich) “getting his name”, but after a confused response from the public, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy has stepped in to clear things up.
“I’m not sure that that’s entirely what Bob meant,” Kennedy said in an MTV Facebook video.
“There’s more to Han Solo’s name, but it’s not that it’s not his name. It’s obviously his name. It will always be his name.”
In other words, while we might be getting a bit of backstory to the smuggler’s magnificent moniker there’s no sign that it’s anything other than the name he was born with, and this whole thing has been a small moon-sized misunderstanding.
Frankly, when we look back on it the whole thing is a bit embarrassing – we’ve never felt Solo.
The untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie will be released in May 2018
