"The 21st century has been a drama bonanza, not just a Golden Age but a Diamond Age,” says our TV editor Alison Graham, as she launches Radio Times' quest to find the best drama of the century. We have six different categories of drama for you to vote in, then the winning show from each group will go into a final shortlist, from which the overall winner will be crowned. All of the shortlists include dramas that began in 2000 or after and were drawn up by Radio Times experts.

The voting begins this week with the poll for best period drama, 20 shows shortlisted by our experts – but it's up to you to decide which is the best of the best!

The other shortlists – crime, US, foreign language, sci-fi and contemporary – will be revealed in the next four issues of Radio Times, so check back each week to cast your vote. You can vote once in each category. Click on the Best period drama link below to vote.

Everyone who votes will be in with a chance to win TWO GOLDEN TICKETS to the BFI & Radio Times Television Festival, which allows entry into all events across the weekend, plus a celebrity goody bag.
