FX: Murder by Illusion ★★★★
9.00-11.20pm Movie Mix
Essentially a TV movie that made it to the cinema – and one you may remember seeing on VHS in the late 80s – this self-reflexive thriller, co-produced by Dodi Fayed, takes special effects as its theme, with Aussie Bryan Brown as the analogue FX specialist lured into faking a mafia hit for New York’s Justice Department. Reality and illusion subsequently blur when he’s framed and has to use his very particular set of skills to avoid being killed: false beards, dummies, blood capsules, mirrors, electric shocks, you name it. I’ll be honest, it looks a bit naff now, but will give some of you a nostalgic blast.
