Scarlett Moffat will no longer participate in Channel 4’s Gogglebox after joining ITV reality show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, RadioTimes.com can confirm.
The northern star was long-rumoured to be joining I’m a Celeb, and after news broke earlier this week that confirmed she was heading to the jungle Channel 4 clarified their position in a statement.
“Scarlett Moffatt is going in to I’m a Celebrity and will no longer participate in this series of Gogglebox,” a Channel 4 spokesperson told us.
“The show’s producers have not had any conversations with Scarlett about leaving or returning to Gogglebox after her stint in the Jungle.”
They concluded: “The Moffatts have been excellent contributors to Gogglebox, and we are very grateful for all they have given to the show.”
Of course, Moffatt’s exclusion from Gogglebox is partly a necessity of her being out of the country, but it’s also not the first time rival media appearances have meant a contributor being excluded from the series. Longstanding series contributors the Gilbey family removed for three series after son George appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, while the Michael family were removed when patriarch Andrew decided to run as a UKIP MP in 2015.
However, both families would later returned to Gogglebox after a period of time (The Gilbeys three series, the Michaels just one), so it’s likely that Scarlett could return to the series at a later date.
It is currently unclear whether the rest of the Moffatt family will also fail to appear in any future episodes, but we have contacted Channel 4 for more information.
Gogglebox airs on Channel 4 on Fridays at 9.00pm, while I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! returns to screens on Friday 13th November
