Episodes 7 and 8 – Invasion of the Zygons / Inversion of the Zygons

A two-parter from writer Peter Harness, with Daniel Nettheim directorial duties.

It is, of course, about Zygons – and will see the return of fan favourite Osgood!

Steven Moffat, speaking to the BBC: “I really like what we’ve done with the Zygons. It’s a terrific story. We’ve got this cracker of a two-parter. It’s a really good use of the Zygons. I’m really, really pleased with it.”

Steven Moffat: “Osgood is back, fresh from her recent murder at the end of last series. We recently confirmed that Osgood was definitely dead and not returning – but in a show about time travel, anything can happen. The brilliant Ingrid Oliver is back in action. This time though, can the Doctor trust his number one fan?”

It will act as a sequel to The Day of the Doctor

Steven Moffat, speaking to SFX: "The Day of the Doctor acted as a prologue to it. In it, the Zygons made peace with the Humans, but not every Zygon decided it was okay so they’ve been raising an army, silently and now they’re rising against UNIT!”

It's going to explore the themes of immigration

Steven Moffat, speaking in Doctor Who Magazine: “I think we have to be awfully careful here, but I would say within the terms of Doctor Who, which involves blobby monsters and action adventure, this is as close to addressing the modern world as we get. Now I’m not suggesting that it’s a political deconstruction of the way things are, but it’s a decent framework for discussing it in. Zygons live among us. What do we do about it? Maybe some of them will be cross. Maybe most of them will be fine. I’d like to think that we embrace the idea that the monsters might have a point. And maybe, in fact, the monsters aren’t monsters... I think it’s good drama."

It will see a The Thick of It reunion

Rebecca Front, Peter Capaldi's former co-star in sweary political satire The Thick of It, is set to guest star.

Jemma Redgrave will also feature
