Does that mean we all get cake now, James?

He just missed out on winning The Great British Bake Off, but James Morton has done the next best thing and stormed to victory in Radio Times’s Food Champion 2015.

Fans of the 2012 Bake Off contestant mobilised to see off two-star Michelin chef and former MasterChef judge Michel Roux Jr in the final of the RadioTimes.com tournament.

Morton will now go on to compete in the ultimate TV Champion poll with the winners of the Soaps, Comedy, Sport, Drama, Entertainment, Sci-Fi & Fantasy and News categories.

As a new batch of bakers head into the Bake Off tent, they’ll have to go some way to match the Fair Isle jumper fan for popularity – especially when he offers to bake cakes and buy beer in return for votes.

Almost 100,000 votes were cast in this year’s Food Champion poll, but just in case you haven’t been playing along so far the format is simple: stars go up against each other in head to head polls, you vote for your favourite and the winner moves onto the next round.

The winner of each genre will go on to compete in a final tournament to decide who is the ultimate TV Champion.

Better get baking James: we’re going to need a lot of cakes to take down the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch and last year’s TV Champion David Tennant.
