INSIDE OUT ★★★★★

Pixar’s latest masterpiece, from the director of Up, is a touching tale of a young girl (and her parents) adjusting to a new home and school. But inside their minds dwell the additional characters of Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust – and they’re really running the show!

SOUTHPAW ★★★

Jake Gyllenhaal beefs up to play a boxer from the wrong side of the tracks who is seeking redemption, in this familiar but nonetheless enjoyable film.

MAGGIE ★★★★

Arnold Schwarzenegger proves he’s got acting chops to match his muscles, in a zombie movie with a difference. He plays a doting father who decides to care for his daughter at home, despite her infection with “necroambulism”.

THE LEGEND OF BARNEY THOMSON ★★

Robert Carlyle’s directorial debut has a fine cast – Emma Thompson, Ray Winstone, Tom Courtenay, Carlyle himself – but the black comedy on display as a morose barber turns accidental killer is sadly unsuccessful.
