Han Solo has a wife and it’s not Princess Leia

Looks like the Star Wars smuggler wasn’t flying solo after all…

Harrison Ford’s Han Solo – smuggler, fighter, friend to Wookies, rebel hero, scruffy-lookin’ nerf herder and…husband?

Yep, in news bound to shock Star Wars fans worldwide, Jason Aaron’s official Star Wars comic book (which is set between the original trilogy’s episode IV and V) just introduced Sana Solo – namely, the Millennium Falcon captain’s wife.

We’re pretty surprised too, Leia – the original films made no reference to a wife for Solo including Episodes V and VI, the ones that canonically take place after this storyline. So what gives? Is Sana just deluded? Does she die tragically, and is never mentioned again to save Han’s feelings? Or did a wanted man manage to persuade Emperor Palpatine to rubber-stamp his divorce papers somehow?

Either way, this new revelation could have repercussions for the Star Wars movies. We’ve previously discussed the rumours surrounding Solo’s parentage of Daisy Ridley’s character Rey in the upcoming Episode VII – could Sana actually be her mother, rather than Princess Leia? And why was Han avoiding the missus for the entirety of Star Wars: Episode IV?

And frankly, the whole thing certainly puts a new spin on this classic romantic scene.

…and have you met the wife?”
