Ewan McGregor is in final talks to join Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson and Luke Evans in the live-action remake of the classic French fairytale, according to The Hollywood Reporter

The 44-year-old Scottish-born star, whose CV includes Star Wars, Moulin Rouge!, Trainspotting and The Impossible, is poised to play Lumiere, a chatty and charming candelabra.

The character has a major part in classic song Be Our Guest and shares most of his scenes with Emma Watson’s Belle, as well as McKellen’s Cogsworth and Thompsons’ Mrs Potts, the teapot.

Filming doesn’t begin until next month, but the wheels are already in motion, with read-throughs taking place in London last week. McKellen posted on social media afterwards revealing that the songs and choreographed dances were already looking and sounding impressive.

Josh Gad, Stanley Tucci, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Hattie Morahan also star in the film, from Twilight director Bill Condon.
