What exactly is the mystery Game of Thrones season five special going to be about? A preview of new characters, an intriuging back story? Well, not exactly.

It turns out that the half-hour Game Of Thrones: A Day in the Life featurette will be a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to produce one TV series in three different countries.

So, not quite as exciting as everyone hoped.

That said, the trailer for the promo special does look suitably epic, even for a backstage documentary.

The programme will explore “the epic sets, renowned cast and global scale of Thrones, as well as the more intimate and individual challenges of our subjects,” according to Entertainment Weekly, “giving the audience a new perspective on one of the most elaborate productions in television history.”

As the title suggests, the documentary will cover one day of filming in three separate locations: Belfast in Northern Ireland, Dubrovnik in Croatia, and Sevilla and Osuna in Spain.

Game Of Thrones: A Day in the Life will air on HBO in the United States on 8th February, and while there are as yet no details of UK broadcast, features such as this in the past have been shown on both Sky Atlantic and the Game Of Thrones YouTube page.

Season five itself will debut in the UK on Sky Atlantic on 13 April, one day after the US broadcast.
