Heroes Reborn: what do we know so far?

By

After four years sci-fi drama Heroes is being reborn, with a brand new face at its centre.

Chuck, Thor and Tangled star Zachary Levi is joining the Heroes universe, and though character details are still under wraps for now, he is reportedly set to play a "key" role in the reboot.

"There are a few franchises I’ve always wanted to be a part of, and Heroes is one of them,” Levi told TVLine. “Chuck gave me the opportunity to wield some fun powers, but an entire world with superpowers is a world I’ve always wanted to explore."

Levi is the first new face confirmed to be joining Heroes Reborn - and our first real piece of Heroes news, though if the show is still on track for a 2015 air date, that'll all be about to change in the coming weeks and months.

But, for now, what else can we expect from the reboot?

Things have changed

It might have the same name and be set in the same superpower-fueled world, but Heroes Reborn is going to look a little different. It'll be a "whole fresh take on the series with a whole host of new characters," Heroes writer Tim Kring told Entertainment Weekly

But it'll still be the Heroes we knew and loved

Yeah. Don't panic. It's not going to be THAT different. It still "gives you that sense of you’re in that world of Heroes you’re familiar with," says Kring.

The series has been in the works for years

When NBC called time on the series back in 2010 we had no idea it would ever come back. But that didn't stop the creators and writers from dreaming up potential plot lines...

"I had ideas of where I wanted the story to go originally when we were hoping for a fifth season and so when we were given the opportunity five years later, some of those same thoughts were there as to where this story goes," reveals Kring.

It will follow on from series 4

"It takes place in a post-season 4 universe. So it will tie into some of the ideas that were left dangling," teases Kring.

Noah will be back

Actor Jack Coleman is the only star confirmed to be returning. So far. We've still got our fingers crossed...

"Jack’s the way in, but I think – and I’m not trying to be coy because we just don’t know – you will see several of the old cast popping in to episodes,” NBC president Robert Greenblatt said at the 2015 Television Critics Association winter press tour.

Sylar probably won't be

"I'm so grateful for the experience that show was. It changed my life and set me on a path that I very likely would not have been on otherwise, and I'm thrilled to know they're making it again," star Zachary Quinto told Mashable, "but A) I don't know if I'd be available, frankly. I don't know exactly when they're planning to shoot and I'm pretty booked up for the foreseeable future. And B) I'm interested in moving forward and diversifying."

It's sounding unlikely, isn't it?

And Peter Petrelli definitely won't be

Milo Ventimiglia revealed on Twitter that he definitely won't be part of the reboot. Responding to a fan who asked if he'd star in the show, the 37-year-old actor said: "Sadly no... but I wish @JackColeman4RLZ and crew the best. I'll be watching."

There will be lots of new faces

Unless the rest of the original cast decide to make a return, it looks as though we'll be welcoming a whole host of fresh new faces. "The vast, vast majority are brand new characters, brand new ideas," confirms Kring.

And there are a lot more stories to tell

"I always saw Heroes as having a message about hope and global connectivity and consciousness and those are even more solidified in me as I get older and I think I have just as much to say about it as in the beginning of the series," says Kring. "I still have a lot more story to tell."

But, plot wise, it's all still a little bit up in the air

"It's an ever-changing thing in my brain as to what it should be. And there's not a tremendous amount to say about it at this point," Kring said at a recent TCA press tour.

We'd better keep watching this space then...
