Charity (Emma Atkins) is to face a tough time in court over the coming weeks as she faces trial for her part in the Home Farm fire and the subsequent insurance scam.

Scenes to be shown on Tuesday 20 January will see Charity’s confession deemed inadmissible, while Sam (James Hooton) watches on, struggling over which way he’s going to turn.

When Sam eventually takes to the witness stand, he looks over at Charity, who fears he might be about to give her one final dose of payback. As the prosecution begins its questioning, Sam does indeed struggle with lying and it looks as though Charity has been painted in a damning light.

But when Rakesh (Pasha Bocarie) has his turn to cross-examine Sam, he comes through and lies for Charity, insisting that Declan set her up. Afterwards, Sam feels terrible, but Charity is hopeful that things have gone her way.

When Charity herself takes to the stand, she offers up a pitch-perfect emotional testimony. Rakesh is satisfied that they’ve done enough to win the case. But have they?
