Former Skins and This is England star Jack O’Connell is fast making a name for himself as one of Britain’s best young actors and judging by this clip, exclusive to RadioTimes.com, his new film ’71 is only going to cement that reputation.

O’Connell plays Private Gary Hook, a young British soldier accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the streets of Belfast in 1971. Unable to tell friend from foe, and increasingly wary of his own comrades, he must survive the night alone and find his way to safety through a disorientating, alien and deadly landscape.

In the tense scene below, Hook finds himself face to face with a young rioter. But can he trust the boy’s offer of help…?
