Is the X Factor actually like The Hunger Games?

Simon Cowell certainly thinks so. Come to think of it...

The Six Chair Challenge returned to The X Factor tonight, a format which sees each judge grant their favourite contestants a seat (and therefore a place in the next round), before swapping them out if a better singer comes along.

Last year this emotionally-charged section drew comparisons to The Hunger Games series with Cowell himself admitting to MTV“I suppose it’s a mixture of The Hunger Games-meets-musical-chairs-meets-I’ve never seen anything like it before. Very controversial.”

It seems a tad extreme to compare the format to a story centred around kids killing each other. These contestants are just singing after all.

But, actually, when you think about it…

Each year you really don’t want to be a part of it, but invariably find yourself involved


There’s been 75 years of The Hunger Games… 


There’s an awful lot of crying if your name is chosen


It’s all about making yourself memorable


Familiar contestants return for another go


Mentors come in all different forms


Everyone gets a bit of a makeover


It’s what we’re all watching at the weekend


They’re all fighting for their lives…


Gotta love a good backstory


The presenters totally love it


Contestants play for their districts


You just know this is how Simon Cowell watches the show at home


There can only be one winner
