EastEnders star Danny Dyer has been revealed that his on-screen family are in for a harrowing time in the coming months. Dyer, 37, who plays Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter, said: "The Carters are set to unravel in dramatic fashion."
The comment comes amid news that Mick's partner Linda (Kellie Bright) is to be raped by Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) in a storyline that show bosses are promising will "rip into the heart of the Carter family".
Speaking yesterday, executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins explained: "EastEnders has a history of telling important human stories that have the potential to make a real difference to people’s lives. We have been working closely with Rape Crisis to tell the story which encourages women who have been in a similar situation to Linda to speak out.
"Kellie Bright and Matt Di Angelo both give such brave, raw and intelligent performances as this story rips into the heart of the Carter family, changing lives forever, testing Mick and Linda’s marriage and exposing some very dark secrets - as we move from autumn through to Christmas and beyond.”
Dyer, though, hopes that his on-screen relationship can survive the storm. Speaking to the Sun, he said of his partnership with co-star Bright: "She's my best mate on the show. I love being around her and could not have asked for a better screen wife. We bonded straight away and we look after each other.
"Kellie got married recently and it was weird watching my 'wife' walking down the aisle!"
