Coronation Street producer Stuart Blackburn is to reintroduce another former Weatherfield resident into the ITV soap. The show boss has already brought back such favourites as Liz (Beverley Callard) and Jim McDonald (Charles Lawson), but now plans for another ex-star to make a return.
Speaking about Jim's resurfacing in prison as well as Ken's (William Roache) reappearance, Blackburn said: "I'm delighted to see both of those characters back. I love Jim's story and Charlie Lawson has played an absolute blinder on that one. Seeing Bill Roache back in the building was also fantastic for everyone. It's like he's never been away, so it's an absolute delight to have him back.
"Even prior to all of that happening, we did start making plans for the return of another popular character, so there is another one on the way."
However, the Street's producer is remaining tight lipped as to the identity of the returnee: "I won't say who yet as it's still to be signed, sealed and delivered, but we do have plans," he told Digital Spy. "Our policy on returning characters is that we'll only do it when it's important for story. Returns can be overdone and we wouldn't just do it to grab a few headlines, but we'll do it when it's right to. The character who is returning will be back on screen early next year."
Since taking over at Corrie in 2013, Blackburn has also overseen Bruno Langley's comeback as Todd Grimshaw, while October's episodes will see Wendi Peters reprise her role as loudmouth Cilla Battersby-Brown for a guest stint.
