Homeland has gone all mellow in a new trailer for series four. And it’s more than a little uncharacteristic.
Where there is normally heart-pumping music – or the beeps and whirrs of phone taps, white noise or military transmissions – confusing plots and thrilling, fast-paced shots, we have a slow paced trailer set to the gentle strumming of a guitar and some folky vocals. Even the violent bits are all in slow motion. Take out the dead bodies and the explosions and it could be a trailer for a complicated family saga.
Homeland footage is normally incredibly stressful stuff to watch, but this? It’s almost relaxing. It could be a nod towards a less nerve-wracking series to come, now that Brody is out of the picture and Carrie is a new mum. But I feel a bit like we are being lulled into a false sense of security.
Keep your wits about you, people…
Homeland series four airs on Showtime in later this year
