Downton Abbey has been hitting the headlines this week thanks to a rogue water bottle accidentally making its way into a promotional picture for series five.

Yep, right there on the mantle piece behind The Earl and Lady Edith was a plastic bottle. According to ITV it couldn’t be seen in the cropped image, but the original shot made it onto the internet, and well, everyone had a bit of a laugh.

There was a lot of ‘you had one job’ style comments going around as people pointed out the mistake.

But now, the cast are putting the attention to good use by all posing with a water bottle to promote the work of charity WaterAid.

“After seeing the reaction this picture caused earlier this week, the cast and crew came up with the idea of turning some of this attention towards an issue around water that really matters. They hope that by posing for this picture they will be able to raise awareness and amplify the work of international charity WaterAid,” an ITV spokesperson explains.

Barbara Frost, Chief Executive of WaterAid adds, “It brought a really big smile to my face when the cast of Downton Abbey said they wanted to support WaterAid’s work. How fantastic that the attention created over one water bottle ends up benefiting some of the world’s poorest communities through access to safe, clean water today.”

Bravo Downton.
