If you’re looking for a film about the sparkly side of Hollywood, David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars isn’t it.
This is, as Entertainment One says, Hollywood, but not as you know it.
Julianne Moore stars as neurotic and tempestuous actress Havana Segrand. She’s just been overlooked for a role reprising her dead mother’s starring role. Which goes down well.
John Cusack is her psychotherapist Dr Stafford Weiss. His estranged daughter Agatha (Mia Wasikowska) has just left a psychiatric hospital and winds up, of all places, as PA to Segrand.
The Weiss family also has a son, Benjie (played by Evan Bird). Fresh out of drug rehab, he’s managed by his mum and is all about the big bucks. After all, he was making 300,000 a week when he was 9-years-old…
Robert Pattinson joins the cast as Jerome Fontana, a limo driver who wants to make it as an actor/writer. He becomes infatuated with Agatha as they unearth the demons of the world of celebrity.
The film went down a storm at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, with Moore walking away with the event’s Best Actress award.
